Luim by Peter Benoit, arranged by Matt Johnston for two bassoons and piano. Luim was originally composed by Flemish composer Peter Benoit in 1869 for two clarinets and strings. It was later published for two clarinets and piano, edited by Edward Keurvels, a student of Benoit. The word “luim” can be translated into English as “joke” or “frivolity.” Perhaps though, it is best interpreted as a more universally-known musical term, “caprice.”

Instrumentation:

  • 2 Bassoons
  • Piano
